I got an e-mail from a prospective racer who said they are interested in racing but are not sure if they could handle the tracks and would like descriptions of the tracks to help determine if their riding ability would carry them through the course. I will do my best to describe the courses, but if you can do better job please send me your description so I can get it posted.

All of the Tracks mostly follow quad width trails. There are very few very difficult sections on all the track but the Iron man racers on their 80cc bikes still make it through.

Tarantula 100 Alamogordo NM

This course tends ranges from 20mi to 36mi depending on how it is set up. The whole area is pretty flat except for the one hill that sticks up out of the desert floor and is sometimes crossed. The course consists of trails and some roads. There are some straight trails that follow the power lines and are pretty whooped out with some woops that are quite deep. There are some flat roads that wind down between  tall mesquite bushes. There is a small arroyo that has some rocks imbedded in it. There are alot of trail that winds in-between the mesquite bush hills. Most of the course is in the sand, the area to the north can get churned up to become some deep power robbing sugar sand. The promoter provides a commerative bandana when you complete the race as a memento. This is a fun course that will let you know what kind of physical shape you are in.

Sandia GP Albuquerque NM

This course was new to us in 05. it consisted of the Sandia MX track and some flat mesa area with one small section of arroyo crossings. The course starts on the MX starting line and then takes off out in the desert. The desert section consisted mainly of racing in a straight line from bush to bush. You would then re-enter the MX track for a short while then back out onto the mesa. Once again you would enter the MX track and do the rest of it before entering the mesa again. At one section of this segment there is a bit of technical small arroyo crossing before going back out to race bush to bush. as you arrive at the pits you can enter the pits for fuel or cross in front where quite a few woops and a few jumps were installed for spectator viewing.  Because of the area is so flat you think you were catching someone when they were really a few turns away or on a total different section of track all together. This track is turned out to be quite fun  with some rough breaking bumps before the turns that would separate the fast from the slow.

Oh My God 100 Cuba NM

This race now in it's 28th annual form. This race has been held in many different places over the years and the tradition continues. there are three different places in Cuba that we have raced in the recent years. These races can be from 20 to 36 mi depending on the layout. Alot of the track consists of jeep trails and some big arroyos. There are some tree areas that you get to ride through but nothing too tight. This is a very scenic course if you stop to enjoy the view. The Pits in this area are the pits. They are covered in short thick branched bushes that like to trip you or scrape up your legs. The other place that this has been held is west of Albuquerque and north of the I-40. This track is setup like a GP with 10mi loops that follow some jeep trails and a few elevation changes and a few areas that wind between the trees. These races are fun and can put your manhood to the test to see just how fast you like to go.

Rattlesnake 100 Espanola NM

This tends to be most peoples favorite race. This race has quite a few elevation changes, some rock sections, alot of fun ridge top trails that are covered in hard pack woops, a few arroyos including one very long fast arroyo. A portion of the track comes close to the town of Chimayo so you have to be careful of old washing machines, couches or whatever else the locals have decide to dump out there. There is a morning sweep rider that goes out to make sure nothing new has been placed out there during the night or that the course markers were not removed, but since it is so close to town we have seen people out there walking or riding horses. Not that these things interfere but as a racer you are aware that they are a possibility so you can take extra caution. There are alot of single track enduro trails that have been occasionally used. This race is done in the summer and can get quite hot. The heat along with the rough track will tire you out but leave you with a smile.

Socorro 100 Socorro NM

I think this track tends to be the least favorite track. On Saturday there is a hill climb competition up a long steep sand hill. The track has some leg killing / energy draining deep sand woops, some ridge top trails with hard pack woops, quite a few elevation changes, some arroyos with large rock, a few roads that are covered deep imbedded rocks or lots of loose rocks, and did I mention the rocks? This is a desert mountainous area where you can find yourself going up and down between the hills, The angles are steep with elevation change about 100 to 200ft the faces are hard pack and sometimes covered with rock. crossing between the hills is not a smooth transition but rather a sharp V. As much as this race is a competition is also a personnel challenge that you are glad you took when you finish. Very few people look forward to this race but all are glad when it is over.

Carlsbad 100 Carlsbad NM

This track consists mainly of sandy trail, a few small arroyos, and some short sections of roads. There is not much elevation change but the track can get rough in some sections and deep soft sand in other sections. There are some areas where you are winding between  bushes through the sand woops. All of these factors together without many flat rest areas can wear you down. This is another fun course where the weather can be anything from hot and windy to cold and wet so be prepared.

Corralitos 100 Las Cruces NM

This is a new track that I have not ridden yet. Alot of work has gone into it so I am sure it will be fun. The mini track has also had alot of work put into it to help make it one of the best. The pit area is being designed to give everybody a great experience.
